Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said he had no knowledge of the Hindu Jagran Manch’s warning.
The Uttar Pradesh Police directed all district police chiefs to ensure that Christmas festivities go smoothly without any untoward incident.
This comes after two days after the Hindu Jagran Manch warned Aligarh schools against celebrating the festival.
ADG (Law and Order) Anand Kumar also directed all district police chiefs of the state to ensure the freedom of practicing one’s religion is protected and appropriate action should be taken in this regard.
This directive comes after RSS-affiliate Hindu Jagran Manch issued a circular on Sunday, threatening the management of all Aligarh schools against celebrating Christmas saying, if they did so, it would be “at their own risk”.
Parents, teachers express concern
“As of now, we have not received any letter [from the Hindu Jagran Manch], but opposition to any festival is unfortunate,” Pravin Agarwal, chairman of the Public School Development Society, told the Hindustan Times.
Anurag Gupta, who is in charge of the parents’ association, said, “Children should not be pushed to fanaticism.”
